St. Anthony Sand Dunes, Idaho, 2013

The St. Anthony Sand Dunes rise out of the farm country of eastern Idaho, not far from Rexburg, where I studied photography at Brigham Young University-Idaho. I photographed them over several years, in winter and in spring, in daylight and after dark.

The wind keeps the sand moving, so the ridges and ripples are different every visit. Sagebrush and grass hold the edges of the dune field, and in places there is open water. Some of the photographs stay close to the ripples, and others take in the whole dune field under a wide sky. People are part of this landscape too: riders crossing the sand, and small groups climbing the dunes after a snowfall.
